MURFREESBORO: Armed Robber Goes Full Ninja - Minus Blinding White Sneakers

Bright White Sneakers and Face Partially Covered - Do You Recognize Him?

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In what can only be described as a masterclass in "How Not to Conceal Your Identity Completely," a man managed to rob a local Vape & Smoke Shop while leaving behind just enough fashionable clues to potentially blow his own cover. Dressed almost as a Ninja, the man forgot to cover his blinding white tennis shoes.

The daring evening robbery took place at the Vape & Smoke Shop at the bustling intersection of East Northfield Boulevard and North Tennessee Boulevard. Our mysterious anti-hero was caught on camera—because of course he was—though he did make a valiant effort to dodge facial recognition technology by wearing head-to-toe black that included... His Hood? Check. Zipped-up collar to the lips? Check. Black gloves to avoid those pesky fingerprints? Double check.

But here’s the kicker: Our man of mystery may have been tripped-up by his choice in trousers. Video evidence suggests his black pants stopped just short of his ankles, revealing black socks and pristine, bright-white sneakers. Fashion faux pas or a clue that might crack the case wide open? You decide. Nothing says “I’m blending in” quite like spotless white sneakers during a felony. Online sleuths, this is your moment — if you know anyone with a penchant for high-water pants and brand-new white kicks, Murfreesboro Police would love to chat. And SOON!

WGNS gathered further details after speaking with police on Wednesday. Investigators say the suspect didn’t just take cash during the robbery—he also made off with various items from the store. To top it off, in what appeared to be an effort to leave a lasting impression, the suspect stole the clerk’s wallet before fleeing the scene.

Can you help police? Detectives at the MPD are currently seeking help in identifying the man who gave the camera a near-glaring look, almost as if to say, “Catch me if you can.” If you recognize this highly coordinated—but questionably dressed—suspect, contact Detective Claiborne at 629-201-5550.
