MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - An active weather pattern is setting up to impact Rutherford County and all of Middle Tennessee over the next few days, bringing multiple chances for strong to severe thunderstorms. The threat escalates as Tuesday is expected to bring the most significant severe weather risk.
Monday: Slight to Marginal Risk (Levels 2 and 1 of 5)
Storm chances increase, with a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) issued for our area.
Storms will likely develop early in the morning, potentially affecting commutes to work and school. A midday lull is possible before more storms redevelop in the afternoon. Main threats include:
- Damaging winds near 60 mph
- Heavy rain
- Large hail
Tuesday: Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) – Highest Threat Day
Tuesday presents the greatest severe weather risk of the week as a strong cold front approaches. An Enhanced Risk has been issued for much of Middle Tennessee. All modes of severe weather are on the table:
- Large Hail
- Damaging Winds
- Tornadoes
Storms are expected to develop in the afternoon and evening hours, with high confidence in storm development and medium confidence in severity.
What Happens After the Front?
Once the front passes through Tuesday night, a noticeable change in weather is expected. Cooler, less humid air will settle into our area, dropping highs from the mid-80s to the upper 60s and lower 70s by the middle of the week.
