Rutherford County's PUBLIC STORM SHELTERS were open 4:15-8:30PM Tuesday (5/20/2025). The county has four designated public storm shelters to provide residents a safe refruge during severe weather events, including both tornado watches and warnings. These shelters, located at Public Health and Safety Buildings in Readyville, Lascassas, Rockvale, and Walter Hill, are accessible to the public whenever storms threaten the area.
For those seeking shelter, here are the specific locations:
- Readyville: 8055 Old Woodbury Pike
- Lascassas: 6525 Lascassas Pike
- Rockvale: 6540 Highway 99 (Salem Highway)
- Walter Hill: 6413 Lebanon Road
Residents are encouraged to use these shelters if they feel unsafe in their homes and stay up to date with weather alerts. In addition to these public storm shelters, Rutherford County collaborates with the American Red Cross to identify additional shelter locations, which often include city and county schools.
Reports from WGNS Radio indicate that Rutherford County activated its storm shelters in response to the severe storms that hit this area.
They were open to the public Tuesday from 4:15-8:30PM. Also, a special THANK YOU to Bryan Barrett for his "live" storm coverage WGNS and Ru Co WX on YouTube.
Stay tuned, be informed and prioritize your safety during severe weather conditions!
