UPDATE: MOUNT JULIET & SMYRNA, Tenn. — Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, is making a major impact on Middle Tennessee’s economy and infrastructure with the expansion of two manufacturing facilities in Rutherford and Wilson counties. With an $85 million investment already underway, the company has upgraded its Smyrna operations and transformed a 500,000-square-foot facility in Mt. Juliet to meet the growing demand for custom electrical switchgear and medium-voltage power distribution products across the U.S... That was Stuart McWhorter, Commissioner for the TN Department of Economic and Community Development.

In Smyrna, the company expanded its manufacturing site and began adding at least 100 new jobs in late 2024 and continues to fill position’s today. Schneider Electric is also working to save energy and support renewable power at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. In 2013, the company built a large solar farm that made over 1.1 million kilowatt hours of energy in one year and continues to sell that energy to the power grid. Schneider also follows a government program that helps companies use less energy over time by tracking their energy use and making improvements. Hear our recent interview/podcast HERE.

Meanwhile in Mt. Juliet, Schneider Electric has completed major renovations on a newly developed manufacturing facility on Maddox Road. The 500,000-square-foot plant, now fully operational, has more than doubled the company’s medium-voltage production capacity in North America. The site manufactures critical power transmission systems that serve high-demand sectors like renewable energy, smart grids, and large-scale data centers.

Since first announcing plans in March 2024, Schneider has followed through on its commitment to generate more than 350 jobs in Wilson County alone. The company’s recent job listings reflect continued hiring momentum, with more than 60 open positions now available across both the Smyrna and Mt. Juliet locations. Positions range from engineers and test technicians to quality control specialists and advanced manufacturing roles.

Schneider Electric’s medium-voltage systems play a key role in transmitting power efficiently over long distances—crucial for renewable energy projects and data-driven industries that consume massive amounts of electricity. These systems minimize energy loss, improve reliability, and support the shift to net-zero energy goals.

With U.S. data centers expected to consume nearly 10% of the nation’s electricity by 2030, the company’s investments are both timely and strategic. Schneider’s latest expansion in Mt. Juliet solidifies its foothold in a market that demands scalable, sustainable solutions.

Schneider Electric has a long history in the United States, with a 135-year presence worldwide and over 19,000 employees across the country. Since 2020, the company has invested more than $440 million into its American manufacturing network, including new or upgraded plants in Texas, Kentucky, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania. These efforts are focused on streamlining operations, strengthening domestic supply chains, and accelerating the energy transition nationwide.
