Murfreesboro, TN - A tragic accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old male around 1:30PM Friday afternoon (5/23/2025) on W. Main next to the old train depot.  Police indicate, "The cossing arms were down and lights were blinking as the teen stopped his bike. He may have left his earbuds in, while climbing through a parked train. That could be why he did not hear the train approaching on the adjoining track.

The preliminary investigation reveals the man climbed through the stopped box cars and tossed his bicycle onto the tracks. When he reached down to pick it up, another train traveling in the opposite direction hit him.

Emergency responders from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

Officials have withheld his identity pending notification of family members.

Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Since the point of impact is on CSX property, the railroad's private police are the lead investigators.
