MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — In the early morning hours of Monday, May 26, keen observation and swift action by Murfreesboro police led to the arrest of two men following a reported car break-in at Chelsea Place Apartments on Bradyville Pike.
Around 1:24 a.m., residents alerted authorities to suspicious activity in the parking lot, describing loud banging noises and two individuals using flashlights to peer into parked vehicles. Responding officers quickly arrived on the scene and intercepted a vehicle attempting to leave the complex.
Inside the car were Damon Moody, 21, of Murfreesboro, and Fredrick Gates, 21, of Smyrna. Both men were detained and eventually arrested. According to authorities, the pair now face multiple charges, including burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft up to $1,000, simple possession/casual exchange, and vandalism up to $1,000. Gates received an additional charge for driving on a suspended license.
During the investigation, officers located a 2018 Volkswagen with a shattered front passenger window, believed to be connected to the attempted burglary. Evidence gathered at the scene linked the suspects to the damage and theft.
Moody has since been released from the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center after posting an $8,500 bond. Gates remains in custody on a $9,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on August 4.
