MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A tragic accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old Murfreesboro man on Friday, May 23, after he was struck by a moving train near West Main Street and Overall Street.

The victim has been identified as Ibraheem Hull, according to Murfreesboro Police. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 1:32 p.m., where Hull was pronounced dead by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest Hull had attempted to cross the railroad tracks by climbing through stationary boxcars of a stopped train. After tossing his bicycle onto the tracks, Hull reached down to retrieve it—just as another train approached from the opposite direction. He was struck before he could move to safety.

The incident remains under active investigation by detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Authorities have not released additional information and are working to determine if any safety protocols were breached or overlooked in the moments leading up to the fatal accident.

The location of the incident—near a frequently used stretch of rail in downtown Murfreesboro—has raised concerns among local residents about pedestrian safety around trains. Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and avoid crossing between or under train cars, even when they appear stationary.

Funeral arrangements for Ibraheem Hull have not yet been announced.
