MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County lost a friend who has helped many make it through challenging times. Lenny Farmer passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025. For the past 21-years, he served as the pre-planning director at Jenning and Ayers.

Lenny lightened the load for many local families. His entire life was focused on helping others, and included pastoral leadership and community engagement. Lenny’s background reflects a commitment to spiritual guidance and congregational development.

In working with those who were suffering through the loss of a loved one, Lenny would counsel and assist families and provide compassionate guidance during sensitive times.

Lenny used his God given talents of singing throughout his life. He was a baritone with Nashville Singers, and used his vocal artistry to enrich lives through singing and support music education.

Lenny was born February 15, 1952 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. With his father serving 23 years in the Army, he often shared he was an Army brat. He proudly held degrees from three Southern Baptist Seminaries. He liked to say he married into and became a fan of the University of Tennessee sports.

For 55+ years he pastored Southern Baptist churches in Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. He last served as pastor of Nolensville First Baptist Church, Nolensville, Tennessee. In his short time there, the church grew and thrived under his preaching and loving pastoral care.

It was. Hard to hear of the passing of Dr. Lenny Farmer.  I enjoyed being friends with Lenny Farmer, a kind gentle man who loved to help others.  Lenny had many talents and he shared them with many folks who he did not know.

Admiring Lenny was easy to do.  He loved helping others and also ministered with his music skills. I am sure he as a special place in the hearts of others and will have a special place in heaven. He loved church work with both small and large congregations and to him all were equal.  If anyone will ever be missed, it will be Lenny.  In fact, we miss him already. Heaven has welcomed another saint into the fold.

To Lennys family, I offer my deepest regrets...at least we know where Lenny is.  It is only for Lenny.  We will see you soon and sing a happy song with you.

Dr. Farmer married my husband, Donald and I, on April 29, 1995. He did our premarital counseling and encouraged my husband to go into ministry. He arranged Don's ordination service and helped him get his first church. Dr. Farmer has been a great source of wisdom for us in our early marriage and ministry years. We are so sad to hear he has passed, but so happy at the same time to know he is with Jesus and that's a great comfort. Our prayers go out to his family
