MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro has promoted assistant coach Cuyler Lanier to lead its boys basketball program. The move follows the departure of former head coach Douglas Worsley, who resigned in May to take over at Cascade High School.
Lanier steps into the role after several years as an assistant at Central Magnet, where he played a key part in the team’s recent success. That includes during the 2022–23 season, when the Tigers reached the Class 3A sectional round and finished with 26 wins.
Lanier began his coaching career as an assistant at Riverdale High School. This is his first opportunity as a varsity head coach.
He takes over a team that struggled last season, finishing 6-24 overall and winless in District 8-3A play.
As the program turns the page, Central Magnet will compete in a newly realigned district alongside DeKalb County, Macon County, and Watertown. Lanier is expected to bring continuity and familiarity as he leads the team into a new era.
