Severe Storm Threat Increasing in Rutherford County Friday & Saturday

Jun 04, 2025 at 03:55 pm by Rutherford Weather

RUTHERFORD CO., Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County is facing an elevated risk of severe weather weeks end, with the greatest threat expected on Friday. Residents should prepare for the possibility of strong storms, heavy rain, and damaging winds, especially as many outdoor events and activities are planned heading into the weekend.

Friday presents the most widespread and significant threat. The entire region, including Rutherford County, is under a Level 2 out of 5 (Slight Risk) for severe thunderstorms. With ample moisture and instability in place, storms are expected to develop by afternoon and evening. A complex of storms arriving from West Tennessee will increase the potential for damaging winds. Heavy rainfall and frequent lightning are also likely, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

By early Saturday morning, another round of non-severe storms is possible. Saturday afternoon’s outlook remains uncertain, but current trends suggest an uptick in severe storm chances. This Level 2 out of 5 risk will be concentrated south of I-40, including Rutherford County. The primary threats will once again be damaging winds and heavy rainfall. In fact, our area could receive 1-3 inches of rainfall across the area.
