Bridgestone’s La Vergne Plant Closure Raises Concerns Among Rutherford County Residents

Jun 06, 2025 at 09:20 am by WGNS

LA VERGNE, TN (WGNS) – Rutherford County residents are expressing concerns following the announcement that Bridgestone Americas will permanently close its truck and bus radial tire plant in La Vergne, effective July 31, 2025. Bridgestone filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice confirming the closure, citing a need for more efficient operations and improved competitiveness. The decision will impact 658 employees, many of whom have worked at the facility for years.

Under the WARN Act, a federal law mandating advance notice of significant layoffs or plant closures, Bridgestone is required to provide employees at least 60 days' notice, allowing time for transition planning, retraining, and job placement assistance. Bridgestone has confirmed that its union workers are represented by United Steelworkers Local 1055L, with a collective bargaining agreement in place.

The closure is part of Bridgestone’s business optimization strategy, which aims to strengthen competitiveness and improve efficiency. As part of this initiative, Bridgestone plans to expand its Morrison, Tennessee facility, shifting some tire production from La Vergne.

Impact on Bridgestone’s Presence in Nashville

Despite the La Vergne plant’s closure, Bridgestone’s naming rights agreement for Bridgestone Arena in Nashville remains unchanged. The company recently extended its sponsorship through 2030, reaffirming its commitment to Nashville’s sports and entertainment scene.

While Bridgestone is closing the La Vergne plant, it continues to invest in headquarters operations and other business activities in Middle Tennessee, maintaining a strong corporate footprint in the region.

Local workforce development agencies are expected to mobilize resources to assist displaced workers through job placement services and retraining programs. As the July 31 closure date approaches, community and industry leaders will monitor how the transition unfolds.

Prospects Looking at La Vergne Site

Bridgestone property in La Vergne has seen a significant increase in value since the company first established its operations there in 1971. With the plant closure scheduled for July 31, 2025, multiple companies are reportedly in talks to purchase the site.

This could accelerate efforts to bring new industrial or commercial businesses to the northern end of Rutherford County, as the property’s prime location and infrastructure make it attractive for redevelopment. La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole has emphasized the city’s commitment to business development, working alongside the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce to attract new investments.

It will be interesting to see how this transition unfolds and what new opportunities emerge for the region. Would you like updates on potential buyers or redevelopment plans?
