SUV driver faces DUI and gun charges after crashing into utility poles

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) – More on the crash that downed power poles on NW Broad Street at Medical Center Parkway Friday morning (6/6/2025), Murfreesboro Police report that the driver, Jordan Deante Smartt, faces DUI (second offense) and gun possession charges after crashing his black Jeep Grand Cherokee into multiple poles.

The accident led to live wires hanging dangerously low, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. A dump truck driver managed to stop just in time before driving under the wires, and another driver in a blue Chevrolet Equinox was hit but escaped unharmed.

Authorities worked swiftly to replace the damaged poles, and as of late morning, traffic flow has returned to normal. Smartt was released on a $35,000 bond, with a court date set for June 17, 2025.
