The 71st Annual Blackman Barbecue: A True Southern Gathering

Jun 08, 2025 at 07:48 am by WGNS

Blackman Barbecue, a Southern tradition for all ages

Murfreesboro, TN - Y’all get ready, because the Blackman Barbecue is back! On Friday, June 27, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, folks will gather at Lane Agri-Park for an evening packed with good food, toe-tapping music, and the kind of neighborly fellowship that makes this community so special.

Hosted by the Blackman Community Club, this event isn’t just about sinking your teeth into delicious, slow-smoked barbecue—it’s about giving back, too. Proceeds help keep the Blackman Community Center running strong, fund scholarships, and support local projects that make life a little better for everyone.

From Humble Beginnings to a Beloved Tradition

Would you believe this whole thing started way back with the Blackman Home Demonstration Club? These folks had a vision—they wanted to build a place where neighbors could gather, share stories, and create lifelong memories. Thanks to their efforts, the Blackman Community Center was built in 1947, becoming the heart of the community. That first barbecue helped raise the money to make it happen, and from there, the tradition just kept growing.

As the crowds got bigger, the barbecue had to move around a bit, each time finding a spot that could handle the turnout without losing that down-home feel. Now, it’s found a comfortable home at Lane Agri-Park, where there’s plenty of space to eat, laugh, and enjoy a warm summer night.

John L. Batey, a longtime Blackman resident, sums it up best: “Every time we moved, it was because the event kept growing. But no matter where we’ve held it, the Blackman Barbecue has always kept that great hometown feel.”
