NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) - Legislation aimed at strengthening support for child advocacy centers and forensic interviewers across Tennessee has been approved by the General Assembly.
Named the Savannah Grace Copeland Act, the bill honors the memory of a 13-year-old Knox County girl who was tragically murdered in 2024. Sponsored by State Rep. Michele Carringer (R-Knoxville), the measure significantly increases state funding for child advocacy services:
Under the new law, annual base funding will rise to $127,855 for advocacy centers and $85,000 for forensic interviewers—more than doubling previous allocations. The funds may be used for salaries, liability coverage, travel, and other operating expenses.
The funding increase is recurring, ensuring continued financial support in future years. House Bill 0641 has been signed into law by Governor Lee and will take effect July 1st.
