MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Murfreesboro City Council and staff will convene for a Regular Workshop on Thursday, June 12, 2025, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be hosted in the Community Room of the Municipal Airport Business Center, located at 1930 Memorial Blvd.

One item to be voted on is the Sponsorship Ordinance 25‑0‑01 (2nd and final reading) under the Parks and Rec. Department in Murfreesboro. City Council will consider the second and final reading of the ordinance, which sets the official parameters for the to pursue advertising, sponsorships, and naming rights for city-owned parks and recreation facilities.

Created in 2024, the Sports Authority is working with a marketing firm to develop new revenue streams aimed at supplementing the budgets of the Parks and Recreation Department and the city’s golf operations. The ordinance outlines the types of commercial content permitted, explicitly banning sponsorships that promote alcohol, tobacco, illegal substances, or material deemed harmful to minors. Additional content limitations may be set by the Parks and Recreation Commission to maintain a family-friendly environment.

Revenue generated from these agreements—after covering the Sports Authority’s operational costs—will go directly toward funding city recreation facilities and programs.

The ordinance reflects the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility by reducing reliance on taxpayer dollars through responsible, regulated sponsorship opportunities. If approved, the ordinance will take effect 15 days after its final passage.

More Action Items to Be Voted On:

  • Stormwater Budget Fee Resolutions — Water Resources (Resolutions 25‑R‑16 & 25‑R‑07)

  • Housing Rehabilitation at 923 Harrison Avenue — Community Development

  • Retail Liquor License Compliance — Boro Liquors (location change)
