Smyrna, TN - The 13th Annual Simply Smyrna Celebration went full steam ahead despite the weather. The historic Depot District brought together thousands of people for an evening of music, art, food, and cultural experiences—rain or shine. The festivities took place from 5:30 to 9:30PM. Despite the rain making a cameo, the festivities carried on with music, food, and art filling the streets. The annual event is thoughtfully coordinated by Carpe Artista. It drew a lively crowd to enjoy the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors that have become a hallmark of this fun-filled community gathering.

This year’s celebration was especially poignant, marking the farewell performance of cultural ambassadors visiting from Estonia, Poland, and Puerto Rico. Hosted by Rutherford County’s own Cripple Creek Cloggers, the visiting dance troupes spent their time sharing traditional music and dance with thousands across the region—including stops at schools, libraries, and civic organizations.

The Cripple Creek Cloggers, known for their spirited performances and cultural outreach, trace their roots back to a 4-H project at Kittrell School, founded by local educator Steve Cates. Decades later, Cates continues to lead the Cloggers and the annual Folkfest, nurturing global friendships and celebrating cultural heritage.

As the wind picked-up, veryone could tell rain was on its way. The crowd was thrilled to see one more performance from Estonia. Then our own Cripple Creek Cloggers, fill with smiles and colorful, danced forward. It wasn't three-minutes, and the sky "opened".

Despite the rain, the crowd took home memories of family time togethers and connecting with new friends from distant lands. From its local beginnings to its global impact, Simply Smyrna remains a powerful reminder of how art, music, and shared traditions bring people together in unity and celebration.
