MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – The trial for two men charged in the 2020 murder of a Murfreesboro man is scheduled to begin next month in Rutherford County Circuit Court.

District Attorney General Jennings Jones confirmed that jury selection and opening arguments in the case against Maceo Boyd and Montavus Guy Jr. are set to begin on July 14th.

Jones says both men are among five individuals charged in connection to the December 4th, 2020, shooting death of 20-year-old Montavis “Monty” Jones at the Campus Crossings Apartments on Greenland Drive:

Boyd, Guy, Paul Turner, and Tevin Campbell, all 21 at the time of their arrest, were each charged with first-degree murder, attempted especially aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. A fifth suspect, Tybresa Lattimore, was charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

The arrests were made in early 2022 following a joint investigation involving the Murfreesboro Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities believe the suspects arranged a meeting with Jones under the guise of purchasing marijuana, then ambushed him. Five different firearms were later linked to the crime scene.
