An 82-year old woman was the reported victim of an insurance scam out of Mexico. The woman told officers in Murfreesboro that she received a call from a subject claiming to be her brother who told her he was in Mexico and trying to avoid jail time for not having car insurance after being involved in an accident. The man on the other end of the line was evidently hard to understand because he was crying as he spoke, therefore the victim could only assume it was indeed her brother.
The culprit claimed that to avoid jail time he needed money to be wired to him. Over a 15-day period the victim wired the subject nearly $60,000. The bad news is there are no known suspects in this case and police have little to go by. So far, an arrest has not been made. As far as the victims brother goes, the incident report did not specify where he may or may not be at this time.
