MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — A quick-moving but highly electrical thunderstorm moved through Murfreesboro late Monday afternoon, causing minor power outages in parts of the downtown area, including near South Church Street and Broad Street.
The storm, while not severe in strength, brought frequent lightning and brief periods of heavy rain. Around 7:15 p.m., power flickered across portions of downtown, with a few blocks experiencing outages.
Local radio station WGNS was temporarily knocked off the air when power to its downtown studio was disrupted. The station posted online, saying, “We’ve lost power to our studio location and are currently off the air. Crews are working to get everything restored shortly.”
Middle Tennessee Electric responded quickly. No major damage was reported, though some businesses and traffic signals experienced interruptions.
There were no injuries or major incidents tied to the storm, but city officials reminded residents to use caution during summer storms, especially those with frequent lightning.
WGNS resumed full broadcasting shortly after 11:15 p.m. once power is fully was restored to its equipment.
