Jun 19, 2025 at 04:17 pm by WGNS

Middle Tennessee - Recycling has become second nature in much of the United States—and around the globe in places like Europe, Japan, and Hawaii. Now, Middle Tennessee is stepping up its efforts to make recycling a daily habit. The Central Tennessee Regional Solid Waste Planning Board will hold a public meeting at 6:00PM on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, on the second floor of the Cannon County Courthouse in Woodbury, TN. Acting Secretary Donna Barrett announced that the agenda includes approving invoices, conducting any necessary public hearings, reviewing legislative updates, and discussing the board’s 10-year plan and annual APRs.

Barrett emphasized the importance of recycling, telling WGNS, “Recycling needs to be a part of our daily routines, just as it is in most other parts of the USA and world.”

The Regional Solid Waste Meeting comes on the heels of a major milestone: on June 17, 2025, Rutherford County celebrated the ribbon-cutting of its new Solid Waste Transfer Station. The facility marks a significant step toward local control over waste management and disposal.

The Central Tennessee Regional Solid Waste Planning Board is tasked with long-term planning for solid waste, including ensuring disposal capacity and promoting waste reduction and recycling, according to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Barrett will appear on WGNS’ Action Line radio show on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m., to discuss the future of solid waste collection and recycling in this region—with a focus on recycling glass, metal, plastic, paper, and cardboard.
