Rutherford County, TN - A favorite among local readers and media lovers, Hoopla will no longer be offered by the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS). Library officials say the decision to end the digital streaming service stems from rising costs and a close look at how best to allocate resources. For years, Hoopla gave residents instant access to movies, TV shows, music, comics, and more—no waitlists required. But its pay-per-use model has become too expensive for the library system to maintain.
Lori Lewis, Technical Services Manager for Rutherford County Library System, noted, “We know Hoopla was a much-loved service, but we’re committed to ensuring all patrons still have access to a rich and diverse digital collection through the Libby app.”
Through Libby, users can continue to check out ebooks and audiobooks with their library card, gaining access to an expansive collection thanks to RCLS’s participation in the Tennessee state library consortium. That means more digital titles than any one system could provide on its own.
What This Means for You
- Digital reading continues: Libby remains your go-to app for thousands of ebooks and audiobooks.
- More variety: The state consortium’s collection enhances the number of available titles.
- Ease of use: Libby is praised for its simple, intuitive user experience.
Need help switching to Libby or finding your next great read? Library staff are standing by to assist at all RCLS branches, including Linebaugh in downtown Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Eagleville, MGL at Patterson Park, the Technology Engagement Center, and the Historical Research Center.
