Smyrna, TN - The Town of Smyrna invites the community to celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Sally Walls, a pioneering figure in Tennessee law enforcement, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in her honor. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the Smyrna Justice Center, located at 400 Enon Springs Road East. Residents, colleagues, and community members are encouraged to attend this special event honoring Walls’ enduring contributions to public safety and civic leadership.
Sally Walls' Legacy
A proud Smyrna native and MTSU graduate, Walls joined the Smyrna Police Department in 1980 as its first female patrol officer. She steadily rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming the first woman in Tennessee to serve as Assistant Chief of Police. After her distinguished law enforcement career, Walls continued her service to the community as Smyrna’s Police and Fire Commissioner and as a member of the Town Council.
Known for her commitment to specialized training and officer education, Walls helped shape a more prepared and professional public safety force—work that still resonates today. Her advocacy and leadership remain a guiding example for future generations.
In a poignant twist, Walls passed away on July 4, 2020—a patriotic date befitting a woman who dedicated her life to serving her hometown. Now Smyrna honors her memory with gratitude and pride. Again, the ceremony will take place at 10:00 o'clock next Thursday morning, July 3, at the Smyrna Justice Center, located at 400 Enon Springs Road East.
