Murfreesboro, TN - Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division – Violent Crimes Unit have arrested six individuals tied to a series of drive-by and retaliatory shootings that rattled local neighborhoods over the past week, including one incident that left an 11-year-old girl injured inside her home. The violence began Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, at the Abbington Apartments on Bradyville Pike. At 10:05AM, a shooter in a blue Volkswagen sedan opened fire at a group of people, striking two occupied apartments. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that incident. Officers arrested 20-year-old Kevin Hatter, along with two 16-year-old males. Hatter is charged with reckless endangerment, vandalism, and possession of an altered tag. The juveniles face separate charges and have since been released from the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.
Violence Continued - The following evening, on June 23, gunfire erupted again—this time on Greenland Avenue. According to investigators, the intended targets from the Abbington shooting allegedly retaliated by firing shots at a group of mini-bike riders. No one was hurt. Police arrested 19-year-old Ke’Marion Bass and 18-year-old Kameron Dunnaway, both charged with felony reckless endangerment and felony vandalism. Warrants have been issued for 19-year-old Ny’Esha Lawrence, who is still at large.
Just hours later, another retaliatory shooting occurred at the Green Meadows Apartments on Warrior Drive at Monday night. Police say 19-year-old Benjamin Hicks fired at Bass and Dunnaway from a vehicle. Tragically, an 11-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet that entered her bedroom. An SUV and another car in the parking lot were also struck. Hicks now faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder and reckless endangerment.
Local Feud - Investigators believe these shootings are part of a localized feud among a small group of individuals. “This was not random,” said detectives. “But the consequences spilled into the lives of innocent residents who deserve better.”
Hatter is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $63,500 bond. Bass and Dunnaway remain in custody on $36,000 bonds each. All three are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on September 8. Hicks is being held on a $1 million bond, with his court hearing also set for September 8, 2025.
Murfreesboro residents are urged to come forward with any information, especially regarding the whereabouts of Ny’Esha Lawrence. “Our community’s safety depends on collaboration,” said a police spokesperson. “We will not tolerate violence endangering our neighborhoods.”
