Wanted Fugitive in Chapel Hill: Sex Offender Registry Violator on the Run

John Dennis Mitchell, 57

MARSHALL COUNTY, TN - Just a couple of miles from Eagleville in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, a man with a long criminal history is accused of violating the Sex Offender Registry laws — but so far, he hasn’t been located. John Dennis Mitchell, who was first added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI) offender website in 2011, is now listed as a “Wanted Fugitive.”

According to the TBI, Mitchell was originally convicted of Aggravated Statutory Rape. Registry records indicate the case involved a victim who was between the ages of 15 and 18 when Mitchell was in his early 40s. He’s now classified as an “Absconder” — meaning he’s failed to report as required. TBI officials posted his wanted status this past Friday.

Mitchell also has an upcoming hearing scheduled for July 22nd at the Marshall County Courthouse, but whether he’ll show up is uncertain, given his current fugitive status.

Mitchell was last known to be living in Chapel Hill along Nashville Highway, but the last time he checked in with the state’s Sex Offender Registry was about eight months ago, back in November.

If you spot John Dennis Mitchell, you’re encouraged to call the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office at 931-359-6122 ext. 107, or email your tips to the TBI at TipsToTBI@TBITN.gov.
