La Vergne, TN - La Vergne has once again claimed the title of Tennessee’s “Freest City,” topping the 2025 City Freedom Index published by the Beacon Center of Tennessee. The annual ranking evaluates the state’s 30 most populous cities on factors like economic liberty, personal freedoms, and government size.

La Vergne tops Tennessee - La Vergne stood out for its top ranking in Free Enterprise and a fifth-place finish in Cost of Government, thanks to its business-friendly policies, low property taxes, and lean municipal operations. The city also earned high marks for protecting private property rights and limiting overregulation.

La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole said, “From keeping taxes low to helping small businesses succeed, this honor reflects our city’s commitment to liberty, efficiency, and economic opportunity. It’s something the entire community can take pride in. It reflects a deep commitment to supporting residents and businesses without unnecessary governmental interference."

For residents of Rutherford County, this honor reaffirms La Vergne’s reputation as a welcoming place to live, work, and start a business—offering opportunity without excess bureaucracy.

Top 5 in Tennessee - Joining La Vergne in the top five were Farragut, Gallatin, Brentwood, and Hendersonville, while Nashville landed at the bottom of the list due to its expansive regulations and higher tax burden. The Beacon Center’s index continues to serve as a benchmark for city

As a footnote, the state's capital, Nashville, was ranked last in the index, particularly in the free enterprise category.
