Rutherford County, TN — Longtime educator and community leader William “Bill” Tollett has officially announced his candidacy for the District 8 seat on the Rutherford County Commission. Tollett, who currently serves as Vice Mayor of Eagleville, will be running to succeed Commissioner Pettus Read, who recently announced his retirement.

With over 30 years of service to the Eagleville and Rutherford County communities, Tollett is known for his commitment to education, public service, and local development. He began his career in 1989 as a teacher at Eagleville School, later serving as a coach and principal. Under his leadership, Eagleville School earned a reputation as one of the county’s most respected community schools.

“I’m running for County Commissioner to continue the great work of Commissioner Pettus Read and to be a strong advocate for the people of District 8,” said Tollett. “Rutherford County is growing rapidly, and with that growth comes both challenges and opportunities. I’m ready to put my experience to work to ensure our communities remain strong, heard, and well-represented.”

Tollett has served on the Eagleville City Council and as Vice Mayor, where he has championed responsible growth, public safety initiatives, and transparency in local government. His campaign will focus on education, infrastructure, and smart strategic development that preserves the character of local communities while addressing future needs.

A lifelong resident with deep family ties to the area, Tollett and his wife Cathy have two children, both of whom have pursued careers as educators and coaches in Rutherford County Schools.
