MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Multiple arrests have occurred in recent days after a strange chain of events, all of which involved targeted shootings at groups of people. Larry Flowers, Public Safety Information Director for the Murfreesboro Police Department, explained the bizarre circumstances that started with one drive-by shooting and then two additional retaliatory shootings that followed…

More Details About the Shooting Incidents: A 19-year-old woman believed to be tied to at least one of three drive-by shootings reported in Murfreesboro over the past month was recently arrested. Flowers told WGNS News…

The violence began on June 22, when shots were fired at Abbington Apartments on Bradyville Pike. A shooter in a blue Volkswagen sedan targeted a group of people, striking two apartments. Thankfully, no one was injured in that incident. Officers later arrested Kevin Hatter, 20, and two 16-year-old juveniles in connection with the shooting. Hatter is charged with reckless endangerment, vandalism, and possession of an altered tag.

Later, the intended victims of the Abbington Apartments shooting allegedly fired shots from a car at a group of mini-bike riders on Greenland Drive on Monday, June 23. The incident was said to be in retaliation for the first shooting. No injuries were tied to the second shooting incident and MPD officers were able to apprehend Ke’Marion Bass, 19, and Kameron Dunnaway, 18, charging them with felony reckless endangerment and felony vandalism.

Bass and Dunnaway were later targeted at the Green Meadows Apartment complex on Warrior Drive Monday night. There, another retaliatory drive-by shooting occurred, but instead of striking the intended target, the culprits hit an innocent child… The child is now beginning her road to recovery after being treated and later released from a hospital in Nashville. Two vehicles were also damaged in the shooting.

Flowers confirmed that technology played a role in the arrests that were made in the third most recent shooting incident… Police arrested Taziyah Ware, 19, who is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, nine counts of reckless endangerment – discharging a firearm into an occupied habitat, three counts of vandalism ($1,000–$2,500), and one count of reckless endangerment – discharging a firearm from within a motor vehicle. Ware is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $1 million bond.

Amauri Blackmun, 20, is charged with three counts of facilitation of attempted first-degree murder. She is being held on a $499,998 bond.

It’s important to note that the shootings were not random acts of violence, but instead, targeted events.

The investigation into that bizarre chain of incidents remains open, and Murfreesboro detectives continue to work on the case to ensure all involved are held accountable. All adult suspects are expected to appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on September 8.
