RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. — The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office reports that a trailer is still missing and the man behind the theft is still wanted by the law. Here's what happened: Under the cover of near-total darkness, an unknown man pulled off a heist that may make movie villain’s jealous — but the plot of the story is likely painful to the owner of a now missing 16-foot trailer.
Just after night fell on Sunday, June 22, the suspect rolled up onto the victim’s property in what appeared to be a late model Toyota Rav4, complete with a rear-mounted spare tire and a luggage rack— because every good trailer bandit need space for that extra luggage.
Like a discount special ops agent, the suspect quietly hitched up the trailer and slipped away into the night, leaving behind nothing but tire tracks and frustration. But here’s the problem, and it’s a big one for the suspect, he didn’t notice the little camera that was capturing his every move. In fact, the footage was collected by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and distributed to media outlets and posted on social media.
Now, the Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help: Do you recognize this sneaky midnight mover or their not-so-inconspicuous Rav4? Detective Brian Gonzales wants to hear from you — call him at 615-904-3041 with any tips about the trailer’s whereabouts, the vehicle, or the identity of the suspect.
Remember: Rutherford County deputies rely on vigilant citizens like you to help solve cases like this one. So, keep your eyes peeled for a suspicious subject who is nameless at this point, but driving a Rav4. Most importantly, that Rav4 could be towing a 16-foot trailer that doesn’t quite look like it belongs behind such a small SUV. According to data at the Toyota company, the trailer is almost exactly one foot longer than the Rav4.
Help roll this trailer back to it’s home. If you recognize the subject or know who he might be, call the RCSO at 615-904-3041 .
