Murfreesboro, TN - As the summer sun brightens our days and fills local parks and porches with laughter, Greenhouse Ministries is bracing for a season of growing challenges. With schools closed and children home full-time, many area families are feeling the heat not just from the weather, but from rising expenses. Food costs, utility bills, and clothing needs are climbing—and at a time when charitable donations typically slow to a trickle.
Greenhouse Ministries has become a lifeline for neighbors in need, offering everything from groceries and hygiene items to spiritual support and a compassionate ear. Co-founder Cliff Sharp told WGNS that staff have seen a noticeable uptick in requests for basic resources.
Greenhouse continues to pour hope into the community. Their Life University program is now at capacity, though a waiting list is open for those eager to learn life skills and learn how to be more successful.
Meanwhile, anticipation is building for the upcoming Live In The Boro talent show, scheduled for 6:00 o'clock Tuesday night, August 26, at MTSU’s Student Union Ballroom, where performers will compete for a $1,000 prize—courtesy of a generous supporter. The ministry team is now reviewing the many video auditions that were submitted, and select the entries that will compete.
Educational outreach also remains strong. The “Family Culture Class,” held monthly, returns at 6:00PM on Tuesday July 15 with a focus on personal responsibility—a timely theme as families navigate summer challenges together.
And although the beloved FIX-IT FAIR and Bike Repair event was delayed, it’s now set for 8:00AM to noon Saturday morning, July 26, with bicycle tune-ups, home repair demos, and a free pancake breakfast on the schedule.
Sharp emphasized the need for more volunteers to help with the upcoming Fix It Fair/Bike Repair. He noted, "Especially if you have DIY skills as a home handyman or are comfortable with bicycle repairs". If that's not your skillset area, he encouraged you to still come and make new friends.
