UPDATED:  Murfreesboro, TN - A single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 6:00 o’clock Sunday evening (7/20/2025) on W. Thompson Lane in front of Erma Siegel Elementary School. That section of Thompson Lane is 5 lanes wide (2 in each direction and a center turn lane). The grey SUV appears to have crossed the opposite lane of travel, hit a utility pole, and slid up the pole. The driver of the vehicle was the single occupant and was unable to get out of the vehicle as the driver’s door was approximately 6 feet in the air.

Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue crews communicated with the female driver and then stabilized the SUV. They wedged steel rods at an angle between the ground and the bottom of the vehicle.

Once stabilized, rescue workers went into the SUV’s cab and checked the driver. She was carefully taken out of the vehicle and placed on the stretcher. Once in the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services ambulance, they were able to stabilize the victim before taking her to the hospital.

Not only were paramedics on-the-scene ready to stabilize the victim once they got him out of the vehicle that was almost vertical. Middle Tennessee Electric Crews were there to replace the shattered utility pole, while Murfreesboro Police handled the traffic. East bound traffic was detoured onto Regency Park Drive, while one-lane of the west traffic trickled slowly by the crash.

This is one of those incidents that lets you know how fortunate our community is to have such professional and highly trained first responders who work flawlessly as a team. Special thanks to the many units and responders from Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue, also Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, Murfreesboro Police, and Middle Tennessee Electric.
