Murfreesboro, TN - Big changes are coming to Murfreesboro’s downtown—and city leaders want residents front and center in the discussion. A Town Hall Meeting will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church (210 N. Spring St.), giving the public a chance to ask questions, share ideas, and hear updates on projects transforming the heart of the city. Rev. Dr. John Hinkle, the church's pastor, will welcome the mayor, council members and administrative staff.
Town Hall Meeting at First Presbyterian Church (downtown) - Mayor Shane McFarland, City Council members, and city staff will address traffic and transportation, crime, homelessness, and the visionary Downtown Planning Study—a blueprint for revitalizing under-used spaces, increasing housing and business opportunities, enhancing walkability, and preserving historic charm.
Two major redevelopment efforts are center stage:
- The Keystone Project — A transformative mixed-use development along Broad Street featuring hundreds of residential units, retail and restaurant space, and pedestrian bridges that connect Town Creek to the proposed Project One site. Designed with walkability and public access in mind, this project supports the City’s goal to boost downtown living and round-the-clock vibrancy. Later a boutique hotel is in the planning stages.
- One East College Redevelopment — Once poised to repurpose a historic church property into a hub of housing, retail, and a hotel, the project stalled amid financial hurdles. The City has since begun condemnation proceedings, with a new focus possibly emerging around public service use.
The Town Hall Meeting offers residents a seat at the table as Murfreesboro reimagines what downtown can be. Your voice matters—come be part of the plan. Again, the Town Hall Meeting is open to the public, and it will be held Monday evening, August 4, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00PM at First Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Spring St.
