LA VERGNE, TN — A high-speed drag race through city streets ended with two drivers behind bars during the early morning hours of a Friday, as La Vergne police reportedly took swift action to stop the alleged illegal street racing within the city limits. The incident happened at approximately 3:00 AM on July 11, 2025.

Two Friday’s ago, Officer Gad with La Vergne PD observed three Dodge Chargers drag racing on Waldron Road. After recording license plates, he activated his emergency lights, prompting two of the vehicles to flee at speeds exceeding 75 mph. Officers Jager, Theide, Cunningham, and Scott responded quickly to assist in the pursuit.

The chase ended on Glochester Court, a dead-end street. One suspect stopped immediately, while the second attempted to evade officers but was quickly boxed in and apprehended. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm, which has been secured as evidence alongside both vehicles.

The suspects were safely taken into custody and booked at the Rutherford County Jail. They face charges of drag racing and felony evading, with additional firearm-related charges pending.

La Vergne Police emphasized that reckless driving and illegal street racing will not be tolerated. “Racing belongs on a legal track, never on public streets,” said officials. The department commended the quick and professional response of the officers involved and reaffirmed its commitment to keeping city roads safe for all residents.
