Tonya Furness, 41

NASHVILLE, TN - A Rutherford County woman is facing serious charges following her arrest in connection with a fatal drug overdose earlier this year. Tonya Furness, 41, of La Vergne, was taken into custody around midnight on Monday by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division (SID), with support from the La Vergne Police Department.

Furness was indicted by a Davidson County Grand Jury on charges of second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance stemming from the February 8, 2025, death of 30-year-old Carson Gregg. Gregg was found unresponsive in his Hermitage home on New Hope Meadow Road. The Medical Examiner later determined his death was caused by fentanyl toxicity.

According to SID’s Neighborhood Safety investigation, Furness allegedly met with Gregg in a Nashville market parking lot on the afternoon of February 7 and sold him drugs laced with fentanyl.

Her arrest highlights a growing concern in both Davidson and Rutherford counties about the dangers of fentanyl-laced drugs and the increasing number of overdose deaths. A Criminal Court judge has set Furness’ bond at $100,000. As of Tuesday afternoon, she remains behind bars.

Community leaders and law enforcement continue to urge those struggling with substance use to seek help. The Community Overdose Response Team can be reached at 615-687-1701.
