DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. — About 30-minutes northeast of Murfreesboro in DeKalb County, TN, two of four individuals indicted in a 2023 superseding indictment for the aggravated child abuse and assault of a 12-year-old child were sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court on Tuesday, July 22.

Christopher Brian Mager, 37, and Angel Anne Mager, 33, each pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated child abuse and received six-year prison sentences to serve at 30% as Range I offenders. Both were credited with 93 days already served in jail between November 18, 2021, and February 19, 2022.

The case stems from a 2021 investigation that led to a superseding indictment alleging that between June 1 and June 17, 2021, the four defendants knowingly and unlawfully abused, neglected, or endangered a 12-year-old child. The charges stated the acts were “especially heinous, atrocious or cruel,” involving torture and resulting in serious bodily injury. The other two defendants, Rebecca Yount, 26, and Jesse Eugene Van Dyne, 27, were sentenced in October 2024 after pleading guilty to child abuse. They each received a four-year suspended sentence with supervised probation and judicial diversion.
