Murfreesboro, TN - After 48 years of helping others with financial challenges and unwavering dedication to Rutherford County’s banking, Freda Morgan officially retired today from her role as Relationship Manager and Vice President at SmartBank. Known for her remarkable ability to recall names instantly and greet people with genuine warmth, Freda has long been a familiar and beloved face across Murfreesboro. In reality, her life-long title should be "Connector-In-Chief" (CIO).
During the celebration, Freda told WGNS News...
Freda Morgan's career has been defined not only by professional excellence, but by a deep commitment to personal service and community connection. Everyone admires her for the ability to have instant recall of people's names...
Her banking journey began in 1977 at Murfreesboro Bank and Trust, where she filed checks and prepared statements. Over the decades, she worked in nearly every department, eventually rising to leadership roles at First National Bank and SmartBank.
Her service has gone beyond banking. She has been a tireless advocate for local nonprofits. She currently serves on the boards of the Jesse C. Beesley Animal Humane Foundation, The Journey Home, and Special Kids. Her involvement has ranged from chairing fundraisers like the Paws and Pearls anniversary gala to mentoring others in their own philanthropic efforts. She was also an original diplomat for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce when it operated out of the log cabin at Cannonsburg.
Mike Ussery, President and COO at National Healthcare Corporation, said, "You have been such a pleasure to know through the years. I consider you a great friend. All the best in your retirement."
Earlier this week, WGNS Radio named Freda their “Good Neighbor of the Day,” a fitting tribute to someone whose life has been defined by helping others.
As Freda steps into retirement, her legacy will continue to echo through the lives she’s touched, the organizations she’s uplifted, and the community she’s helped shape. Murfreesboro may be losing a banker, but it’s keeping a lifelong champion.
