Murfreesboro, TN - Local soccer fans continue to ask about the Cherry Lane extension that will connect the Siegel Family Soccer Park on Memorial Blvd. at Cherry Ln., and on over to a new interstate connection at I-840.
Murfreesboro City Manager Darren Gore told WGNS…
The delay in continuing Cherry Lane to I-840 has been due to a wetland’s issue. Engineers have a new route that curves the road slightly and bypasses the wetlands…
City Manager Gore explained some major benefits to the Cherry Lane extension...
Gore explained that Cherry Lane’s connection to I-840 will offer a mix of developments. 150 acres of land has been secured with almost 50 acres planned for hotels, gas stations, restaurants and more. Then around 98-acres will be the site of a new city park. It will be designed and operated by the Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation Department...
Work on the I-840 Cherry Lane interchange is scheduled to begin next Spring. Again, the Cherry Lane extension should reduce some of the heavy traffic on Thompson Lane, which T-DOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation) is already making engineering “right of way” measurements.
Preliminary plans call for the state to widen Thompson Lane to 5-lanes, two in each direction plus a center turn lane. It will also require a new 5-lane bridge over Stones River, where the old 2-lane bridge is currently located. That major widening project for Thompson Lane will begin on on Broad St. and continue to Memorial Blvd. at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center.
NewsRadio WGNS will keep you updated as these two major road improvements move forward.
