Murfreesboro, TN - A brief band of rain swept across Murfreesboro Friday (8/8/2025) afternoon, but it moved on just in time for the city’s beloved Friday Night Live. As the skies cleared, the historic downtown square came alive with music, laughter, and the unmistakable energy of Rubiks Groove, a high-octane tribute band that celebrates the best of the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s.

Taking the stage on the east side of the Rutherford County Courthouse, Rubiks Groove delivered a performance that was anything but ordinary. Known for their “Outside of the Box” style, the band transformed the square into a vibrant, interactive playground of sound and nostalgia. Dressed in cartoon-like costumes that seemed to leap from memory and imagination, the performers created a 360-degree experience that echoed off the four classic walls of the square, amplifying the fun for everyone in attendance.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Main Street Murfreesboro and its Executive Director Sarah Callender, Friday Night Live continues to be a magnet for residents and visitors alike. Callender, speaking on WGNS, emphasized the organization’s mission: “Main Street’s charge is to beautify and preserve the historic downtown district.” That mission was on full display Friday night, as families, friends, and neighbors gathered to enjoy the festivities.

Many arrived early to stroll the square, browse the family-run shops, and dine at local favorites before settling in for the show. One resident, lawn chair in tow, even bumped into friends from church—proof that the square remains a place where community connections thrive.

Founded in 1985 as part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Main Street Murfreesboro has spent four decades revitalizing the city’s heart. With roots dating back to 1811, the square is more than a venue—it’s a living piece of history. And thanks to events like Friday Night Live, it continues to evolve, blending the charm of the past with the vibrancy of the present, making downtown Murfreesboro a destination for all ages.
