Murfreesboro, TN - Middle Tennessee State University filled Murphy Center with pride and celebration on August 9, as 722 students crossed the stage during the 2025 summer commencement ceremony. The event marked a significant milestone for the university and its newest alumni, who now join a legacy of nearly 190,600 degrees awarded since MTSU’s founding in 1911.

Among the graduates, 490 earned undergraduate degrees, while 232 completed graduate programs. That group included 205 master’s recipients, seven who earned education specialist degrees, and 20 who achieved the highest academic honor—a doctorate. Four additional students received graduate certificates, rounding out a diverse and accomplished class.

Degrees were conferred across all of MTSU’s colleges, including Graduate Studies, Basic and Applied Sciences, Behavioral and Health Sciences, the Jones College of Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and University College. The ceremony reflected the university’s broad academic reach and its commitment to preparing students for a wide range of careers and advanced study.

Suzanne Sutherland, a history professor and former Faculty Senate president, delivered the keynote address, offering reflections and encouragement to the graduates. MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee also took the stage, continuing his tradition of congratulating students and recognizing their hard work and perseverance.

As the university turns the page to a new academic year, the campus is already preparing for the return of students. Fall classes officially begin August 25, ushering in the 2025–26 school year. But for the hundreds who walked across the stage this summer, the future has already begun—filled with promise, potential, and the proud distinction of being MTSU alumni.
