A Hand-Up and a Heartfelt Call for Help at Greenhouse Ministries

Aug 15, 2025 at 10:08 am by WGNS

Murfreesboro, TN - Greenhouse Ministries, 307 S. Academy Street in Murfreesboro, is known for offering more than just food or clothing — it’s a place where hope is handed out daily, often in quiet, powerful ways. Co-founder Cliff Sharp was recently on WGNS Radio when he shared that the nonprofit is currently serving around 70 people each day, and they’re in urgent need of volunteers to help meet that growing demand.

Executive Director Christy Sanford added that their computer lab, a vital part of their job training and educational outreach, is facing a major hurdle. With Windows 11 rolling out in October, their current computers won’t be compatible. “We desperately need several new computers,” Sanford said, “and we’re hoping someone with a big heart will step in to help.”

The ministry’s mission is to offer a “hand-up” — not just a handout — to those navigating hard times. And it’s the stories behind those numbers that truly show the impact.

Take Sarah, for example. She came to Greenhouse Ministries exhausted and overwhelmed. Her work hours had been cut, her rent had gone up, and she was skipping meals so her children could eat. She walked in hoping for a bag of groceries. What she found was far more.

She was greeted with warmth and compassion. Someone listened to her story. Someone prayed with her. She learned about job training opportunities and, most importantly, she was reminded that she wasn’t alone.

Sarah left that day with food — but also with a renewed sense of hope.

Greenhouse Ministries continues to be a lifeline for many like Sarah. But to keep that lifeline strong, they need the community’s help. Volunteers, updated technology, and open hearts are all part of what keeps this ministry moving forward.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make a difference, this might be your moment.
