MURFREESBORO, TN — Fire crews with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) responded Tuesday night to a fire at Backyard Buildings & More, located at 5548 NW Broad Street. When Engine 5 arrived, firefighters discovered heavy flames coming from a shed, with multiple other sheds, material piles, and tow motors also catching fire.
The call originally came in as a reported structure fire near NW Broad Street and Florence Road. Roads in the area were quickly closed as emergency personnel worked the scene, forcing drivers onto alternate routes. Several explosions occurred as crews attacked the flames, though the fire was brought under control before spreading further. Despite the quick response, several sheds, tow motors, and other materials sustained heavy damage.
Units on scene included Engine 5, Ladder 4, Rescue 4, Ladder 11, Engine 7, Battalion Chief 1, Battalion Chief 2, Safety 1, Safety 2, Chief Mark McCluskey, Assistant Chief Josh Oliver, the Fire Marshal, and fire inspectors. The Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
