RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County high school football returned under the Friday night lights with a full slate of games to open the 2025 season.
WGNS carried the featured matchup between Oakland and CPA, where the defending 6A champion Patriots started strong with a 28-14 win over the Lions, snapping
Elsewhere, several county teams celebrated season-opening victories. Blackman rolled past Clarksville, 24-6, while Siegel edged Cookeville in a close one, 15-12. Middle Tennessee Christian also opened with a win, topping Ezell-Harding 37-20.
Stewarts Creek pulled out a thriller at home, defeating Centennial 39-36. Providence Christian notched a victory as well, holding off Eagleville 28-21.
But not every county team came away victorious. Smyrna battled Brentwood to the wire before falling 14-13. Riverdale dropped its opener to Knoxville Catholic, 20-6, while Rockvale lost to Independence, 37-23. LaVergne was shut out by Franklin, 20-0.
