MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A heavy law enforcement presence was seen Thursday about a mile from the I-24 and Medical Center Parkway interchange in Murfreesboro on Thursday, as police searched for a subject wanted out of North Carolina on murder and kidnapping charges.
The incident unfolded after license plate reader cameras alerted authorities that a stolen vehicle connected to the suspect was parked near a newly constructed hotel. Officers quickly responded to the TownePlace Suites by Marriott on Roby Corlew Lane, across from The Avenue shopping center after locating the stolen Toyota Camry.
The Murfreesboro Police Special Operations Unit, along with detectives and uniformed officers, searched the hotel floor by floor. Construction workers inside the building were evacuated during the search. After several hours, officers confirmed that the suspect was not located inside the hotel.
Drone pilots assisted by surveying the hotel’s interior and the surrounding area, but those searches also came up empty. By Thursday afternoon, law enforcement had cleared the scene, and construction workers were allowed to return to the building. The 4-door sedan found next to the hotel that sparked the search was towed away by law enforcement. Reports show that the vehicle was a gray, 2009 Toyota Camry, (NC License Plate #KDD8701). MPD reports they will continue to remain on the lookout for the wanted North Carolina murder suspect.
Police confirmed the wanted individual is accused of both murder and kidnapping in North Carolina. As of now, the suspect remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
