LA VERGNE, Tenn. – The La Vergne Police Department recently hosted a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Instructor Training course at Fire Station 41 on Old Nashville Highway. R.A.D. Systems is a nationally recognized program that emphasizes realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women, with a strong focus on training instructors to teach awareness, risk reduction, avoidance, and hands-on defense strategies.
Participants, including both officers and civilians from multiple states, underwent intensive training to become certified R.A.D. instructors. A total of 34 individuals participated in the three-day Basic Physical Defense course, while 18 others took part in a two-day Replicating course - an advanced segment centered on simulation-based instruction. This specialized training equips instructors to lead scenario-based self-defense practice in safe, controlled environments.
In our continuing efforts to serve our community, the La Vergne Police Department continues to collaborate with local agencies to expand access to R.A.D. courses across the region, reinforcing a shared commitment to empowering women through personal safety education and effective physical defense training throughout the United States
