MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – 4Top Hospitality will be bringing Char Restaurant to Murfreesboro, its first concept in Rutherford County and sixth location of the modern Southern-style steakhouse. The new 6,600-square-foot restaurant marks the brand’s latest expansion across the South, with groundbreaking slated for later this year and a projected opening in 2027.

“We’re excited to bring our steakhouse to the rapidly-growing Rutherford County area,” said Doug Hogrefe, partner at Nashville-based 4Top Hospitality, an employee-owned, multi-concept independent restaurant group. “Guests can expect the same great menu, wine selection, live music and hospitality they’ve experienced at our Nashville location.”

Char will be located in the forthcoming development called The Exchange, a mixed-use expansion within The Avenue area. This development at 2305 Exchange Drive near the corner of Medical Center Parkway and Robert Rose Drive is redefining the residential and commercial landscape as lines between professional and personal spaces blur. 4Top Hospitality worked with the Foundry Commercial team on the Murfreesboro location, along with Char Franklin opening in 2026 within the mixed-use Canteen on Carothers development in Williamson County.

Similar to the Franklin location, the Murfreesboro restaurant will be in an area where guests live, work and play, aligning with Char’s approachable flexibility to offer a working lunch, afterwork drinks, a go-to dinner spot or a date night destination. Char Murfreesboro will feature the concept’s signature piano bar, menu of modern takes on Southern favorites, Wine Spectator award-winning wine list and private dining space. It is estimated to bring 50 jobs to the area.

4Top Hospitality Director of Strategy Ali Buchanan adds: “We've been considering a location in Murfreesboro for quite a while. Liz Craig and the Foundry Commercial team have been instrumental in supporting our expansion endeavors in the areas surrounding Davidson County. The Exchange development offers everything we look for in a new Char site, and we're thrilled to become part of the Murfreesboro community.”

With roots beginning in 2001 in Jackson, Mississippi, and locations in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, Char specializes in USDA Prime and Choice cuts of meat, fresh seafood, homestyle sides to share, a weekday meat-and-three lunch special, New Orleans-style jazz brunch and a selection of classic cocktails, wine and bourbon. Additionally, Char hosts local jazz musicians nightly in conjunction with the Nashville Jazz Workshop.
