La Vergne, TN - Monday evening was tense in La Vergne as emergency crews rushed to the scene of a structure fire at the Tobacco Brew & Chew, 5104 Murfreesboro Road. The road was closed to traffic until around 10:00 p.m. while firefighters tackled the blaze and investigators gathered preliminary information.

The call came in at 9:06 p.m. reporting visible smoke, and by 9:08 p.m., La Vergne Fire Department units were already on site. Heavy smoke was pouring from the front of the store, but thanks to swift action, the fire was under control within ten minutes. Sixteen crew members from La Vergne responded, backed by command staff, four suppression units, a truck, and mutual aid from Smyrna Fire Department and Rutherford County EMS.

One person evacuated the tobacco store before crews arrived, and several others left the neighboring Little Caesars as a precaution. Firefighters also had to make entry into the Boost Mobile store located in the middle unit of the structure. Battalion Chief Cody Wilson confirmed that no one was inside at the time.

While the fire was quickly contained, the Tobacco Brew & Chew sustained heavy smoke damage. The full extent of the destruction is still being assessed. La Vergne Fire Marshal Curtis Brinkley will be leading the investigation with assistance from an investigator from the Rutherford County Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.
