NASHVILLE, TN – Metro Nashville Police confirm that a Brentwood teenager died Sunday morning at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital following injuries sustained in a tragic crash Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say 15-year-old Cheathan Babu lost control of an electric motorcycle while riding at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk along Old Hickory Boulevard near High Lea Road. Witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling eastbound at approximately 40 to 50 miles per hour before Babu was thrown from the vehicle and struck a fire hydrant.

Police cited reckless driving and inexperience as the preliminary contributing factors in the crash.

Friends and classmates at Brentwood High School said they immediately felt his absence on Monday. Known as an athletic young man with a passion for sports, especially baseball, Babu’s sudden death has left a void in the school community and in the lives of those who knew him best.
