MANCHESTER, Tenn. — The scams continue throughout Middle Tennessee – and they all look similar from county to county. For this con-artist update, we head to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, where their department is alerting residents after receiving several recent reports of scams targeting community members through phone calls, emails, and other means – all of which are equally obnoxious.
Officials say scammers are using a variety of approaches, including jury duty and arrest warrant scams, romance schemes, fake investments, online buying and selling tricks, phishing emails, and employment or remote work fraud. Some schemes even involve convincing victims to hand over remote access to their computers under the guise of fixing problems. Regardless of how good the scheme may seem, don't fall for it! Hang up the phone, delete the email and avoid the message – because one call could lead to empty bank accounts or stolen identity – neither of which are fun to recover from.
The Sheriff’s Office in the Manchester, TN area is urging citizens to remain cautious and remember that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Law enforcement throughout the area reminds the public never to share personal or financial information with unknown callers or through unsolicited emails.
