UPDATE Sunday 9/21/2025 @ 3:10PM: A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Middle Tennessee Boulevard in Murfreesboro, directly in front of the Shell Convenience Store located behind Middle Tennessee State University. The incident occurred around 7:18PM during a chaotic moment when the MTSU homecoming football game between the Blue Raiders and Marshall was delayed for two hours due to heavy rain. The delay prompted a mass exodus of attendees heading to their vehicles, resulting in crowded sidewalks and congested roadways. The rain-soaked streets added to the danger, creating slick conditions and gridlock traffic.
MTSU Police were the first to respond, quickly assisting the injured pedestrian while managing the overwhelming flow of vehicles and foot traffic. Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue crews arrived shortly after and administered first aid. Paramedics from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services stabilized the woman and, with a police escort, transported her to Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. A second individual was also injured and received care from RCEMS at the scene in a separate ambulance.
WGNS was the only media outlet to report the unfolding situation. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
