DAVIDSON COUNTY, Tenn. – A former Nashville caregiver has been arrested following an investigation into the financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

In May, the TBI’s Medicaid Fraud Control Division launched an investigation after a referral from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services. Agents determined that Eric Scott (DOB: 12/21/1998) allegedly used the bank card and personal information of an individual in his care between May 26 and May 27 to make fraudulent withdrawals, purchases, and other transactions.

On Thursday, with assistance from the Metro Nashville Police Department, special agents arrested Scott. He has been charged with:

  • One count of Theft of Property Over $1,000

  • One count of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card Over $1,000

  • One count of Identity Theft

  • One count of Financial Exploitation of an Elderly or Vulnerable Person Over $1,000

Scott was booked into the Davidson County Jail on a $17,500 bond.

Officials stressed that the charges are accusations at this stage. Scott is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation is part of the TBI’s Medicaid Fraud Control Division, which receives 75 percent of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, with the remaining 25 percent provided by the State of Tennessee.
