MURFREESBORO, TN - This past Monday, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland made a statement on his Facebook LIVE video feed that surprised some and angered others... His comments came during a live video where he discussed ongoing issues between the Mayor’s office and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).

McFarland said his concerns had been building for quite some time, citing several examples—including MTSU’s decision to move its Aerospace program from the Murfreesboro Airport to the Shelbyville Airport...At the time, the Mayor suggested that the city was seeking ways to work collaboratively, rather than seeing the university abandon the Murfreesboro Airport altogether.

McFarland, a 1997 graduate of MTSU and former student body president in 1996, acknowledged his love for the university but emphasized that he believes significant changes are necessary...

Although little has been elaborated on since his Facebook statement, McFarland’s comments indicate the story is far from over...

So far, MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee has not publicly responded to the Mayor’s remarks regarding leadership changes at the university.
